The dryer tumbles but has no heat
A running drum proves one function. It does not prove the heat system is ready.
Which drying architecture is fitted?
Follow the observed condition. Each branch identifies the next investigation, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Vented electric
Confirm cycle settings and the model’s supply and heater circuit. A motor can operate while the heating path lacks a required condition.
Gas
Follow the model-specific ignition sequence. Record the last completed stage; glowing or clicking alone does not confirm successful heat production.
Heat pump or condenser
Use the relevant moisture-removal architecture. A vented-dryer heater checklist is not interchangeable with a heat-pump diagnosis.
Make the evidence useful.
| Record | What to capture | What it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Selected mode | Heat setting, timed/sensor mode, and initial load. | An unheated program is a different starting point from a failed heated cycle. |
| Circuit context | Exact schematic and protection-device locations. | The consequence of an open device depends on where it sits in that design. |
| Independent evidence | Approved isolated checks against model limits. | A confirmed open component still leaves the cause of its failure to investigate. |
In a fictional electric-dryer case, the drum runs but the required heater supply is not established. Replacing a heating element at this stage would be a guess.
Verify the result.
Restore all panels and protection. Verify heat regulation and moisture removal through an appropriate operating test; record duration and limits.
